Islamic Counselling Essentials is being held at Macewan University on January 28, 2018 from 10:00 am to 3:30 pm.

More Information on the Course

This course mainly targets Islamic school teachers (weekend and full-time), volunteer khateebs, women and men who give dawah, parents and leaders who want to start programs, and anyone else who is committed to helping others from an Ihsan level of ethical and professional standards.

The course includes elements of Islamically integrated Mental Health First Aid, Solution Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Transformational mentorship, and Islamic Organizational Psychology. If you have never heard of any of these terms, don’t worry, we will explain. Please be advised, knowledge is a necessary but insufficient requirement of becoming a competent helper.

The fee for this course is 20-HOURS of Service Based Learning. If you want to take it without the service-hours, contact us to make a financial arrangement.

Pre-Requisite: You must be active in the Muslim Community and familiar with the Canadian Muslim reality.
This is not an info session on Islam and Muslims (Counselling Muslims workshops are coming soon) but rather a professional development workshop for community helpers of all sorts

In this course, you will gain the confidence and knowledge necessary to provide culturally responsive and ethical informational and companionship support. Common concerns and issues will be discussed as well as a framework to help you become a more competent helper.

This is a pre-service training that includes an opportunity to complete a 20-hour service based learning experience with one of our many partners. As you begin your service-learning, you will harness your skills further through ongoing support, inquiry-based learning, a post-service workshop, and one-to-one coaching by mental health professionals and community leaders.

Islamic Counselling Essentials is facilitated by Mahdi Qasqas, a registered Psychologist, consultant to many Masajid and community leaders across Alberta, and head of Qasqas & Associates Psychological Services.

Your service-hours will in Sha Allah serve towards developing a community of compassion equipped with city-wide Intake and Referral Hubs, Muslim 211, Crisis Intervention systems, Reach 1 Teach 1 Mentorship and Coaching Programs, timely, confidential, and higher quality counselling in the Muslim community, and for future Psychologists and mental health professionals, opportunities for practica, apprenticeship, and employment.

Our Professional Psychological Services are conducted by Qasqas and Associates and are covered by most extended health benefits. We would be happy to help you navigate through any barriers to your success. Please email or call 780.809.8668 for an appointment.
